I wanna know what happens when one conks out somewhere remote. Will one of those even fit in an AN-225?

In a pinch, my guess is that they’ll strap one on that 747, fly to the site, and swap the good for the bad.

Oh my that is big

Short of borrowing the Stratolaunch, that seems like one of the few viable options.

They move a lot easier if you take the fan section off (kinda matches your username):
It’s easier to transport the fan horizontally on a pallet, if you even need to transport it at all.

Too bad this isn’t an option any longer.

Engine mules, such an odd looking group.

I just have to say... the 777 is such a majestic bird
Also, fences suck. That would have been an awesome picture.

It’s only a problem if the flight lasts for more than four hours.

Always liked the P&W Canada 720.

The 777 and 747 are a lot closer in size than it looks in pictures, I was fortunate to see both of them together at SFO in September.
A 747 with 4 of the GE9X engines would be a rocket ship.

Maybe they could fit one on an old 747 that supports the extra engine position?

I would bet that it’s way too big.

Is that some kind of ducted turbofan on that IL-76? it looks like it’s missing too many parts to be a regular turbofan.

I can’t find a good page in English about it, but that’s the Kuznetsov NK-93 .

I did find somewhere that stated it’s a 16:1 bypass ratio turbofan. With that kind of bypass ratio it’s essentially blurring the lines between a turbofan and a ducted Turboprop.

Or even a ducted prop-fan, really.
